The Power of Music
One of our favorite nonprofit organizations here in San Diego is Resounding Joy 501(c)(3). This incredible organization improves the social, emotional, spiritual and physical well-being of those in the community through music therapy. Resounding Joy was started in 2004 by Barbara Reuer, PhD as a ministry at her church. The ministry quickly grew, and by 2005, it was officially incorporated as a nonprofit association. In the years since it first began, Resounding Joy has provided music therapy to more than 85,000 adults and children in the San Diego area.
Resounding Joy provides its services to those in need through four major programs; Healing Notes – helping support children in medical care, Mindful Music – empowering seniors, Semper Sound – assisting in military rehabilitation, and Sound Minds – focusing on preschool development. Each program exercises the incredible benefits of music therapy in order to better each group. Through these programs, Resounding Joy hopes to expand the awareness and power that music can have on the overall well-being of those in need.
If you would like to see the benefits of Resounding Joy in action, you are in luck! The organization is holding a “Drumming to Beat Cancer” concert this Friday night, March 3rd from 5-8 PM. In addition to concerts and events, Resounding Joy has several activity groups, including yoga, that utilizes music therapy that you may attend.
