Clickbait Pros and Cons

If you have been on any social media platform or even a website with ads, most likely you have been faced with some sort of fake news. These fake articles and video content are called Clickbait, which is content whose main purpose is to attract attention and encourage visitors to click on its content. Here are a few positives and negatives to Clickbait if you are thinking about doing this yourself.

Positives:

1. Better attraction to your content.

Whether it’s a video with an attractive thumbnail, or a link to an article with a popular celebrity on the front, people will naturally attract to something that’s appealing to their eye. Same goes for the title of your content; having a more intriguing title will definitely draw more attention to your content as it now seems more interesting.

2. More views on your content

People love getting shared a video or article sent to them by their friends. Most of the time people get sent a video or article that has Clickbait within it so it looks more interesting, so all that means for the creator is better views because it is now getting shared among more people.

Negatives:

1. Angry viewers

Have you ever clicked on a link or watched a video that said it was about one thing, but instead was about nothing close to its thumbnail or title. This experience isn’t very pleasing to the viewer, as it can make you upset and angry at the creator for misleading you.

2. More Dislikes

On platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter, Clickbait is common, and all have a tendency to have more dislikes than likes. Creators usually don’t want to see their content getting disliked, as well as receiving negative comments; however, that is a price to pay using Clickbait to get more views and attraction.

Hopefully these positives and negatives to Clickbait have helped you gather enough information on whether you should do it or not. Now it’s up to you to chose your route of better views and attraction with consequences, or chose the easier route of not using Clickbait at all.
